A PR Firm helped me go within and find more of myself
When I talk about business performance, I normally come from the position of our mindset and how we can change it to make things better. Today I have a different twist.
Sometimes you have to go outside of yourself in order to find what you need inside yourself. This personal experience on how to better my business (including my mindset) starts with my decision to hire a public relations (PR) firm. For many people, PR firms are ambiguous entities that are only reserved for big businesses or famous celebrities. However, they have a real purpose for any individual or business – big or small.
The right firm can guide you through decisions on where to spend your energy to get the best results for your particular company. Any good business coach worth his salt will tell you that it’s always beneficial to bring in professionals who specialize in the various aspects of your business. For example, a restaurant owner shouldn’t hire an accountant to develop the menu nor a cook to handles the books. Hire an expert for each area business, and your business will thrive. That is why I took my own guidance and hired a PR Firm.
It takes a certain mental state in order to do this (mental lesson #1). First, I had to realize and believe in my own product. You see, I knew I would be asked a lot of questions about what I did, how it was special (marketable) and who I wanted to get my message out to. I had to ask myself:
- Do I trust and believe in myself?
- What do I have to offer?
- Do I believe that others will trust in me and my product/service?
Then, (mental lesson #2), once I got past the fact that I had to invest the money in my business, I had to realize that I am worth it. It simply breaks down to having value and respect for myself. Since I have been working on these two items for many years, I had complete faith in my actions and knew that the investment would pay off. I can tell you – IT REALLY HAS!
I am proud to say that I hired the firm Aker Ink. Since my mindset was locked in the right place from the minute we met, the benefits have been amazing. My initial consultation was extremely helpful. I realized that if I wanted to be successful, I couldn’t afford not to use a PR firm. Why? A pro’s help is essential to getting your name and image out there. A good firm can help you really focus in on the who, what, when, where and why of your company. As an image and identity expert (as I like to think), a full-service PR firm can guide you through social media marketing, blogs, newsletters, news interviews, public image and getting yourself professionally published.
This is vital to becoming successful in your field. Not just because you will be seen as an expert in your field, but because it will force you to position yourself mentally and physically so you can be the expert. That is where the real accomplishment is made.
In some cases you will see immediate results, whether repositioning your mental state or landing interviews for magazines (which happened only two weeks after I hired them). Other results are more long term, but just as important. From my website, to the blog you’re reading, I have my PR firm to thank for helping me focus in the right direction. No one – and I mean no one – can afford to operate without a PR firm, especially small businesses. It’s not as costly as you may think, and a small investment can yield a big return.
There are many good firms out there. Do your research and make sure they work with your size of business. My golden resource is Andrea at Aker Ink. Her company handles big and small businesses.
